Question 1129958: Please help me find the answer to this question
For a recent year, 0.99 of the incarcerated population is adults and 0.07 of these are female. If an incarcerated person is selected at random, find the probability that the person is a female given that the person is an adult. Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source):
the probability that the incarcerated person is a female, given that the person is an adult would be .07 * .99 = .0693.
the formula used is p(a given b) = p(a and b) / p(b)
p(a) is probability the incarcerated person is female.
p(b) is probability the incarcerated person is an adult.
p(a given b) is probability the incarcerated person is female given that she is an adult.
p(a and b)is probability the incarcerated person if a female and an adult.
p(a given b) = .07
p(b) = .99
p(a given b) = p(a and b) / p(b) becomes .07 = p(a and b) / .99
