: Find the value of each variable that will allow you to prove that ABCD is a parallelogram. Then find the measure of each angle of the parallelogram. Angle B is (2x-3y) degrees: angle C is (x+y) degrees; angle D is (5x-y) degrees. Angle A is blank but A is opposite of angle C on the parallelogram and angle B is opposite angle D. Please help. Thanks. This question is from textbook Geometry Explorations and Applications

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2x-3y=5x-y because B & D are equal
-3x=2y Add 3y-5x to each side
y=-3x/2 divide each side by 2.
.
5x+3x/2=180-x+3x/2 because C & D are supplementary.
10x+3x=360-2x+3x multiply each side by 2 to eliminate fractions.
13x=360+x
13x-x=360+x-x
12x=360
12x/12=360/12
x=30
.
y=-3x/2
=-90/2
y=-45
.
D=5x-y=150+45=195
B=2x-3y=60+135=195
C=30-45=-15
This is impossible for a parallelagram, of course.
Maybe you go the figures wrong.
