You can put this solution on YOUR website!
david has a container filled with quarters and nickels he has 33 coins which add up to $6.85 how many quarters does he have
----
Quantity Equation:: q + n = 33 coins
Value Equation::: 25q +5n = 685 cents
--------------------------------------------
Simplify::
q + n = 33
5q + n = 137
------
Subtract and solve for "q"::
4q = 104
q = 26 (# of quarters)
-----
Solve for "n"::
n = 33-q = 33-26 = 7 (# of nickels)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
Let he has Q quarters; then the number of nickels is (33-Q).

Nickels contribute 5*(33-Q) cents to the total.

Quarters contribute 25*Q cents to the total.

In all, there are

    5*(33-Q) + 25Q = 685 cents

    5*33 - 5Q + 25Q = 685

    20Q = 685 - 5*33 = 520

    Q = 520%2F20 = 26.

Answer.  26 quarters and  33-26 = 7 nickels.

Check.  26*25 + 7*5 = 685 cents.    ! Correct !
