You can put this solution on YOUR website!
by elimination (as opposed to substitution):
2v + 1D = 14,40 multiply all times 3
5v + 3D = 37.35 multiply all times -1 and add
Now we have:
6v + 3D = 43.2
+
-5v +- 3D = -37.35
-------------------
1v + 0D = 5.85
v = 5.85 each video game is 5.85
Now go back to what the problem says:
2v + 1D = 14.40
2(5.85) + 1D = 14.4
11.70 + 1D = 14.4
1D = 2.7 Each DVD is 2.70
Try these answers on the second equation to see if they are correct. The problem says that:
5v + 3D = 37.35
5(5.85) + 3(2.70) =
29.25 + 8.10 = 37.35 Correct
