16 hours to fill a swimming pool using a small hose a large hose is connected to a different supply can fill the same in 72 hours.
The small hose is turned on at 8:00am and the owner turns on the large hose at 10 am.
Both hoses run from 10:00am to 3:00pm what percentage of the pool is filled by 3 pm.
:
From the information given we know:
the small hose ran for 7 hrs
the large hose ran for 5 hrs
:
let the full pool = 1
Find the fraction of the pool filled
5%2F72 + 7%2F16 =
the common denominator will be 144
10%2F144 + 63%2F144 = 73%2F144 * 100 ~ 51% filled by 3 PM
:
--------------------------------------------------------
Replacing 72 hrs with 12 hrs
Find the fraction of the pool filled
5%2F12 + 7%2F16 =
the common denominator will be 48
20%2F48 + 21%2F48 = 41%2F48 * 100 ~ 85% filled by 3 PM
