The simplest such an absolute value equation is


    |x - (-7.5)| = 2.5,        (1)    or equivalently

    |X + 7.5|    = 2.5.        (2)


Equation (1) says that the values  x= -10  and x= -5  are equally remoted from the point x= -7.5  on the number line.


Notice that  the distance from the value of -7.5 to -10  and -5 is 2.5,

which is exactly half of the distance between the point -10 and -5.
