If the perimeter is 50 and one side is 1cm longer than the other, then the side lengths are 12 and 13.

Then the diagonal that is an altitude divides the parallelogram into two right triangles each with one leg 12 and hypotenuse 13.

Since 5-12-13 is a Pythagorean Triple, the length of the diagonal is 5.
