The equivalent formulation is

    32 coins, all nickels and/or dimes,  $5.00


It is a standard coin problem.

    25Q + 10*(32-Q) = 500   cents   ("money" equation)



Simplify and solve for Q, which is the number of quarters.



Answer.  Q = %28500-10%2A32%29%2F%2825-10%29 = 12.   Dimes = 32 - 12 = 20.
