Question 1123144: Trying to figure out the area of an Irregularly shaped hole. Trying to figure out how many gallons of liquid are in the hole in front of my apartment. I've roughly measured the hole when it was dry. I've divided the hole into five segments of measurements. If I get section E right I think I just repeat the process and I'll get the total gallons the hole contains. Section E of the hole measures 5 ft x 5 ft x 4" deep. H x W x Depth = Tot Gal. Little by little of searching the internet I've come up with the following formula. 5'x 5'(4"/12")=8 Cu Ft. So I found out 1 cu ft = 7.4 GAL. So I multiply 8 cu ft x 7.4 gal = 59 gal in section E of the hole. I had to understand to multiply by 4" I had to plug into the formula (4"/12") so I could calculate the 4"deep x 5'x5'=25sqft x (4"/12") inches =8cu ft.x 7.5 = 8 cu ft.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

5 feet by 5 feet by 4 inches = 5 feet by 5 feet by 1/3 feet because 4/12 = 1/3.

that would give you 25/3 cubic feet.

you probably won't calculate it 100% accurately, but you'll be close.

you are correct that there are 7.48052 gallons per cubic foot.

therefore 25/3 * 7.48052 = 62.33766667 gallons.

roughly between 62 and 63 gallons makes sense.

your measurement would have been 7.5 * 8 = 60 gallons.

you analyzed it correctly.
