You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x = amount that jose has.
y = amount that joy has.

x + y = 600 is your equation.

jaja has 240 more than jose.

i'll assume you meant joy.

joy has 240 more than jose.

x = y + 240 is your equation for this.

the two equations that need to be solved simultaneously are:

x + y = 600
x = y + 240

since x = y + 240 from the second equation, replace x with y + 240 in the first equation to get:

first equation is now y + 240 + y = 600

combine like terms to get 2y + 240 = 600

subtract 240 from both sides of the equation to get 2y = 360

divide both sides of the equation by 2 to get y = 180

since x = 240 more than y, then x must be equal to 180 + 240 = 420

x = 420
y = 180

x + y = 600 becomes 420 + 180 = 600 which becomes 600 = 600 which is true.

x = y + 240 becomes 420 = 180 + 240 which becomes 420 = 420 which is also true.

the solution looks good because both original equations are true.

since x = 420 the amount that joy has and y = the amount that jose has, then the solution is:

joy has 420
jose has 180

here's a reference on how to solve simultaneous equations.

the method that i used in your problem is substitution.
