Question 1121792: A machine pumps cleanser into a process at a rate which has a uniform distribution in the interval 8.60 to 10.50 litres per minute. What is the pump rate (in litres per minute) which the machine can be expected to be less than 80% of the time?
Give your answer to 1 decimal place (just in put the value, no units).
Hint: draw a diagram, read the question carefully, and shade the area you think that you think represents the 80% specified in the question. This will help you to find the required pump rate.
Thank you so much in advance
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The 80% is from a region from 8.6 to 10.5 l/min
That difference is 1.9 l/min
80% of that is 1.615 l/min
from 8.6 to 8.6+1.615, or 10.215 l/min is the lower 80% of the distribution.
Therefore, 10.2 is the answer.
