SOLUTION: Name the roots, vertical asymptotes or holes of each function {{{ y=(x^2-3x-4)/(x^2-x-2)}}} So first I factored {{{((x-4)(x+1))/((x-2)(x+1))}}} Since x+1 cross out that w

Question 1121657: Name the roots, vertical asymptotes or holes of each function
+y=%28x%5E2-3x-4%29%2F%28x%5E2-x-2%29
So first I factored %28%28x-4%29%28x%2B1%29%29%2F%28%28x-2%29%28x%2B1%29%29
Since x+1 cross out that would be the hole?
How do I know which is the VA, Roots and how to state the hole?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Obviously undefined at x=2 and at x=-1.
Notice factor of 1 for y, %28x%2B1%29%2F%28x%2B1%29.

HOLE for x at -1.

x-2 is found only in denominator, so this makes for vertical asymptote of x=2.

x-4 is factor found only in numerator so this is a root or zero of y.
Root is x=4.
