Question 1118186: My grade in a certain math class is determined three tests. My highest test score will count for 50% of my grade and my lowest for 20%; the "middle" test score will count for 30%. I must have a weighted average of 60 to pass the class. If I already earned scores of 70 on my first two tests, what is the lowest score I can earn on the third test to pass the class?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! weighted average of 60 means total points/number of tests is 60, so total number of points is 180.
If both tests were 70, then they are the highest and the middle, since both are above the average needed.
70*.5=35
70*.3=21
That leaves 4 points left for the last score, which counts 20%
If .2x=4
x=20.
The last score must be at least a 20, so that is the lowest score.
