Let x be the weekly rent for the smaller apartment; then x+10 is the weekly rent for the larger.

Let y be the number of weeks the smaller apartment was rented; then y-1 is the number of weeks the larger one was rented.

Then the problem tells us

(1) xy+=+270
(2) %28x%2B10%29%28y-1%29+=+320

Expand the expression on the left in (2):
xy%2B10y-x-10+=+320
xy%2B10y-x+=+330

Subtract (1) from this...
10y-x+=+60
