You can put this solution on YOUR website! A rectangular park, 60 meters long and 40 meters wide, is surrounded by a jogging path of uniform width, containing 1344 square meters. How wide is the jogging path?
Correct answer:
IGNORE all other RIDICULOUS answers. How can the width of the path (56 m) be greater than one of the side lengths of the park?
As stated by the ALWAYS wrong YOU-KNOW-WHO. Isn't that totally RIDICULOUS?
Answer by ikleyn(52754) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! .
(60+2x)*(40+2x) - 60*40 = 1344
4x^2 + 200x - 1344 = 0
x^2 + 50x - 336 = 0
(x-6)*(x+56) = 0
Only positive root x= 6 is the solution to the problem.
Answer. The uniform width of the path is 6 meters.
