Find the formula for the quadratic function whose graph has a vertex of (1,2) and passes through the point (-1,-6) where a is unknown.
Use the coordinates of the second point to solve for the leading coefficient a
Substitute ALL 4 values into the vertex form of a quadratic function: matrix%281%2C3%2C+f%28x%29%2C+%22=%22%2C+a%28x+-+h%29%5E2+%2B+k%29 ======> matrix%281%2C3%2C+y%2C+%22=%22%2C+a%28x+-+h%29%5E2+%2B+k%29.
That is, substitute (1, 2) for (h, k), and (- 1, - 6) for (x, y). You will then get the value of the 5th variable, "a."
Then substitute 3 values: (1, 2) for (h, k), and value of "a" into the vertex form of a quadratic function, or matrix%281%2C3%2C+f%28x%29%2C+%22=%22%2C+a%28x+-+h%29%5E2+%2B+k%29.
That's your quadratic function!
