You can put this solution on YOUR website!
r and j, Rose and Johnny

First part means r=%282%2F3%29j but this can also be written as 3r=2j.

Next part means r%2B5%2Bj%2B5=50 which can be expressed as r%2Bj=40.

.
The problem says

R = %282%2F3%29%2AJ (1) ("Rose is two third as old as Johnny.")

(R +5) + (J +5) = 50.      (2)    ("In 5 years, the sum of their ages will be 50 years.")

Simplify (2)

R + J = 50 -5 - 5,   or   R + J = 40   (3)

Now substitute (1) into equation (3). You will get

%282%2F3%29%2AJ+%2B+J = 40.

Multiply by 3 both sides:

2J + 3J = 120  ====>  5J = 120  ====>  J = 120%2F5 = 24.

Answer. Johnny is 24 years old. Rose is %282%2F3%29%2A24 = 16 years old.

Solved.
