draw 2 circles that overlap.

the circle on the left is the mother circle.

the circle on the right is the father circle.

the overlap portion of both circles is the mother and father circle.

put 65.3 in the overlap circle.
put 18.9 in the mother circle portion that does not include the overlap.
put 4.2 outside both circles.

since the father circle portion that does not include the overlap is what's left, and the total universe needs to be 100%, then the number in the father circle that does not include the overlap has to be 100% minus 65.3% minus 18.9% minus 4.2% which is equal to 11.6%
