The other tutor has the answer right, but his numbers aren't right.

Use estimation. A little mental arithmetic shows 59 cents for 12 ounces is just under 5 cents per ounce (12*5 would be 60); and 81 cents for 16 ounces is just over 5 cents per ounce (16*5 would be 80).

Just under 5 cents per ounce is cheaper than just over 5 cents per ounce....

The 12 ounce can is the better buy.
