     In this problem (in this post), the condition that D is the midpoint of BC, is EXCESSIVE and UNNECESSARY.  
     It is not used in the solution.
     The condition  "Δ ABD~ΔACD"  OVERPOSES the condition that "D is the midpoint of BC".
