You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The admission fee at a small fair is $1.50 for children and $4.00 for adults. On a certain day, 2200 people enter the fair and $5050 is collected. How many children and how many adults attended?
======
Equations:
a + c = 2200 tickets
4a+1.5c = 5050 dollars
-------------------------------
Modify for elimination::
4a + 4c = 4*2200
4a + 1.5c = 5050
--------------------
Subtract and solve for "c":
3.5c = 3750
-------
c = 1071.43
----
Cannot be correct. # of children must be a whole number.

The admission fee at a small fair is $1.50 for children and $4.00 for adults. On a certain day, 2200 people enter
the fair and $5050 is collected. How many children and how many adults attended?
======

Equations:
a + c = 2200 tickets
4a+1.5c = 5050 dollars
-------------------------------
Modify for elimination::
4a + 4c = 4*2200
4a + 1.5c = 5050
--------------------
Subtract and solve for "c":
2.5c = 3750
-------
c = 3750%2F2.5 = 1500.

Answer. 1500 children and 2200 - 1500 = 700 adults.
