Question 1108855: find the values of x and y in abcd. ab=2y, bc=y+3 ,CD =5x-1 ,da =2x +4

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Draw the trapezium in system as the line ab=cd ,then line bc=da
Then since ab=2y,bc=y+3,cd=5x-1,da=2x+4
Recall, ab=cd
bc=da
That is: 2y=5x-1....eqn (i)
y+3=2x+4...eqn (ii)
2y-5x=-1...(i)
y-2x=1....(ii)
By substitution method..2y=-1+5x. => y=(-1+5x)/2
Then substitute the value of y in eqn (ii)
(-1+5x)/2-2x=1. => (-1+5x)-4x=2
-1+5x-4x=2
-1+x=2
X=2+1. => 3
Use eqn (ii) to find y ..y-2x=1..y=1+2*3 =>7 therefore. X=3. and y=7
