Here is the question and my working so far:
9 - 2x = -8 - 4x (the question)
My attempt:
9 - 2x = -8 - 4x
9 - 2x +8 = -8 +8 -4
17 - 2x = - 4x
17 -2x + 2x = -4x + 2x
17 = -2x
-2x/-2x = 17/2.

I understand that my answer is incorrect and that the correct answer is -17/2, but I'm having trouble working out why this is?

Would someone be able to help?

9 - 2x = -8 - 4x
4x - 2x = -8 - 9
2x = -17
x = -17%2F2

solution
9-2x=-8-4x by keepin all number one side and vriable one side
9+8=-4x+2x
17=-2x
-17/2=x

OK to this point.
-2x = 17
Divide by -2
x = 17/(-2)
x = -17/2
================
-2x/-2x = 17/2. --- this makes no sense. -2x/-2x = 1
