6% : that symbol, %, means "per one hundred". So if you make 100 and have to take a cut of 6%, your cut would be 6 and your new wage would be 94.
Since we usually have to calculate the percentage of numbers other than 100, like in your problem, we take the "per one hundred" and turn it into "per one". How? Well, by dividing by 100 of course. 6 percent becomes 0.06 per-one.
Now it's easy, just multiply 0.06 for any number to calculate its 6%:
7.50 x 0.06 = your answer

Wage decrease of 6% of $7.5 per hour

7.5-0.6%2A7.5=7.5%281-0.06%29=7.5%2A0.94=7.05

Wage becomes adjusted to $7.05 per hour.
