cost of the $3 per pound coffee + cost of the $2.50 per pound coffee = av.cost*total pounds


3x                              + 2.50*18                            = 2.85*(x+18).


3x + 2.5*18 = 2.85x + 2.85*18

3x - 2.85x = 2.85*18-2.5*18

0.15x = 0.35*18  ====>  x = %280.35%2A18%29%2F0.15 = 42.


Answer.  42 pounds.


Check.   %283%2A42+%2B+2.5%2A18%29%2F%2842%2B18%29 =  2.85.   ! Correct !
