Question 1106273: I have the question “separate into 2 positive factors the number 85 so that the quotient is 3 and the remainder is 2, when the larger is divided by the smaller.” Would I cross multiply 85/x and x? I tried finding a number that gave the quotient of 3 but couldn’t find one with a remainder of 2. Thanks in advance.

These factors are 17 and 5.

Other decompositions of the number 85 are 1*85 and 85*1, but they, obviously, do not satisfy the condition requirements.

So, you do not have many selections to choose from.
