Question 1104837: A bag contains
9
marbles:
4
are green,
2
are red, and
3
are blue. Karen chooses a marble at random, and without putting it back, chooses another one at random. What is the probability that the first marble is red and the second is blue? Write your answer as a fraction in simplest form.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

P(first marble is red):
On the first draw, there are 9 marbles, of which 2 are red; so P(red) = 2/9.

P(second marble is blue):
On the second draw, there are 8 marbles, of which 3 are blue; so P(blue) = 3/8.

Since both of these have to happen, we multiply the probabilities of each event:
P(red then blue) = (2/9)*(3/8) = 6/72 = 1/12.
