Question 1104701: Take a coin to a do this experiment. Don’t just record the final result. Be sure to record the result of each flip. You will not have the same result those working with you have.
Determine if you coin is fair, meaning that both sides of the coin (“heads and tails”) are equally likely.
The following video shows how to decide if your coin is fair or not.
Heads vs. Tail video: http://www.exstrom.com/blog/abrazolica/posts/dancingbeta.html
Replicate the simulation on the video, actually flip your coin. Do not just record the final result. Be sure to record the result of each flip in order.
You will need to use this app: http://keisan.casio.com/exec/system/1180573226
In the video the author flipped the coin 300 times. Is that necessary? How many times do you really need to be fairly confident in your conclusion?
As in the video you will be creating beta distributions, one for each coin flip.
You will begin with with alpha =1 and beta = 1;
you will a new distribution each time you flip your coin;
Be sure to submit the results of each coin toss in order that I may verify your results.
Conclude whether your coin is fair or not, how you know, and how confident you are.
How many times do you have toss a coin to determine with high confidence that a coin is fair?
