48 is divisible by 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 6 and 8 and 12 and 16 and 24 and
those can be factors.
what you can do is work your way up from 1 and try each one in turn.
48 / 1 = 48, therefore 1 * 48 = 48
48 / 2 = 24, therefore 2 * 24 = 48
48 / 3 = 16, therefore 3 * 16 = 48
48 / 4 = 12, therefore 4 * 12 = 48
48 / 5 is no good.
48 / 6 = 8, therefore 6 * 8 = 48
48 / 7 is no good
48 / 8 = 6, therefore 8 * 6 = 48.
you can stop there, because 8 * 6 is the same as 6 * 8, only presented in a different order.
your next possibility would be 12 * 4 which you already have as 4 * 12.
9, 10, and 11 don't divide evenly into 48.
your next possibility after that would be 16 * 3 which you already have as 3 * 16.
13, 14, and 15 don't divide evenly into 48.
your next possibility after that would be 24 * 2, which you already have as 2 * 24.
17, 18, 19, 20, 21 don't divide evenly into 48.
