Your statement of the problem makes no sense to me....

I have no idea what X and Y represent; and I can't see how the expression "X +2 times X plus Y" has anything to do with the problem....

I see 6 people going to the movies; 2 of the 6 each buy a bag of popcorn.

The total cost is $43.50 for 6 tickets plus $6.50 for 2 bags of popcorn -- a total of $50.

Was that what you were supposed to find?
