Question 1103166: crude oil production the table in the right column above shows total 2008 productions of crude oil (in millions of barrels) by the five top-producing states. use this information to determine each of the following. (a) the mean production per state (b) the range (c)the standard deviation (d) the coefficient of variation (e) if 26 additional lesser producing states averaged (mean) 14 million barrels in 2008, what was the mean production for all 31 states?
States Total
texas 398
Alaska 250
California 215
Louisiana 73
Oklahoma 64
I was able to answer letter a which was 200 barrels
range with 334
but I'm struggling with how to find the standard deviation. I keep getting 123.368175, according to the textbook its 138 million barrels.
Can anyone help me with letter c-e? I know I have to understand the standard deviation in order to be able to solve coefficient of variation and letter e of the question.
thank you so much in advance.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
For the standard deviation, divide by 4 and not 5, and the result is 138.34.
Coefficient of variation is s/xbar or 138.34/200=0.6917
Total of 5 states is 1000.
Total of 26 other states is average*number=1.4*26=36.4
Total of 31 states is 1036.4
Divide by 31 and average for 31 states is 33.43 million barrels.
