d = rt: distance equals rate times time

If the distances are the same, this is a classic example of inverse variation -- if the ratio of speeds is a:b, then the ratio of times is the opposite ratio, b:a

In this problem the distances are the same, and the ratio of the speeds of the two trains is 69:46 = 3:2.

That means the ratio of the times required for the trip is 2:3.

If the ratio of the two times is 2:3 and the difference between the two times is 2 hours, then the times are 4 hours and 6 hours.

So the distance between the two towns is 6*46 = 4*69 = 276km.

Solution process could be easier if you recognize the simple ratio of the two speeds.
