.
Women - Men  =  1200

W     - M    =  1200     (1)

M%2FW = 4%2F5  ====>  M = %284%2F5%29%2AW  ====>   substitute it into (1).  You will get

W     - %284%2F5%29%2AW  = 1200

%281%2F5%29%2AW = 1200  ====>  W = 5*1200 = 6000.   ====>  M = W - 1200 = 4800.

Answer. 6000 women and 4800 men.

Given that the ratio of men to women is 4:5, nearly always the easiest way to solve this kind of problem is to start by saying the number of men is 4x and the number of women is 5x. That makes x the difference between the number of men and the number of women.

Then, since you are told that the number of women is 1200 more than the number of men, you immediately know that x is 1200.

And that in turn immediately tells you that the number of men is 4800 and the number of women is 6000.
