Let w be the width; and w+4 be the length. Then:
w(w+4)=357
w²+4w-357=0
(w+21)(w-17)=0
w=17 or -21
The width and length of the rectangle are 17cm and 21cm, respectively

.
Area = L*W,   or

357 = w*(w+4).

Solve this quadratic equation

w^2 + 4w - 357 = 0,

w%5B1%2C2%5D = %28-4+%2B-+sqrt%284%5E2%2B4%2A357%29%29%2F2 = %28-4+%2B-+38%29%2F2.

The only positive root is w = 17.

Answer. The dimensions of the rectangle are 17 and 21 centimeters.

Check.   17*21 = 357.   ! correct !
