Question 1100670: Find the open intervals where the fiction is increasing and decreasing.
y= 2/(x-1)
Answer: increasing. No interval exist. Decreasing (-infinity, 1), (1, infinity)
i am confused about the whole concept. I got 1 for the vertical asymptote but how do you know whether its is increasing and decreasing without using the calculator?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
y=2/(x-1)
if x is approaching 1 from the left or negative side, the denominator becomes small negative, the function large negative. If x is approaching 1 from the right or positive side, the denominator becomes small positive and the function large positive.
