Gary  + Linda = 24,

G     + L     = 24,

(L+6) + L     = 24,


2L + 6 = 24  ====>  2L = 24 - 6 = 18  ====>  L = 18%2F2 = 9.


G = L + 6 = 9 + 6 = 15.


Answer.  Gary is 15, Linda is 9 years old.
