The solution by the other tutor is valid; but I would not go that way....

If the dealer made a 25% profit, then the selling price is 125% of his total cost:

18000+=+1.25x
14400+=+x

If his total cost was $14,400 and he paid $12,600 for the car, then the amount he spent on repairs was 14400-12600+=+1800
