You need to earn $70 from sales
$70=(2/9)x
multiply both sides by (9/2)
70*9/2=$315=x
you earn $30+($315*2/9)=$100.

The correct solution is THIS: 

30 + (2/9)*x = 100  ====>

(2/9)x = 100-30 = 70  ====>  x = %2870%2A9%29%2F2%29 = 35*9 = 315 dollars.
