You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let 's' represent shirts and 't' represent ties
.
Collect data..
.
3s+5t = 60 ... 1
2s+3t = 39 ... 2
.
Process data..
.
From eqn1;
t = ... 3
.
Substitute into eqn 2 = 39
.
10s+180+9s = 195
.
s = 195-180 = 15
.
Put 's' into eqn 3
.
t =
.
t = 3
.
Information
.
Shirt cost = $15
Tie cost = $3

In a certain clothing store 3 shirts and 5 ties cost $60, and 2 shirts and 3 ties cost $39. What is the cost of each shirt and each tie?
Let cost of each shirt and each tie, be S and T, respectively
Then we get: 3S + 5T = 60 ------ eq (i)
Also, 2S + 3T = 39 ------- eq (ii)
- 6S - 10T = - 120 ----- Multiplying eq (i) by - 2
6S + 9T = 117 ------ Multiplication eq (ii) by 3
- T = - 3
Cost of a tie, or
3S + 5(3) = 60 ------- Substituting 3 for T in eq (i)
3S + 15 = 60
3S = 45
Cost of a shirt, or
