You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Sam is twice as old as Mary and
s = 2m
Mary is 5 years older than her sister Kate.
m = k + 5
or
k = m - 5
The sum of all their ages is 31.
s + m + k = 31
replace s and k
2m + m + (m-5) = 31
4m = 31 + 5
4m =36
m = 36/4
m = 9 yrs is Mary's age
then
s = 2(9)
s = 18 is Sam's age
and
k = 9 - 5
k = 4 yrs is Kate's age
