The child is at the middle of the ladder. Let n be the number of steps to the middle of the ladder. Then:
n+6-7+4-3+7=top of the ladder
n+7=top of ladder
top of ladder-middle of ladder=7
Since n is the middle of the ladder, there must be 14 steps on the ladder total. ☺☺☺☺
