Question 1094761: Three baseball bats and five baseball gloves cost $235. Two bats and six gloves cost $210. Find the cost of a baseball glove. Answer by greenestamps(13195) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Double the first purchase and triple the second purchase so that both have the same number of bats. Then the difference in price will be because of the difference in the number of gloves.
(1) double the first: 6 bats and 10 gloves = $470
(2) triple the second: 6 bats and 18 gloves = $630
With 18-10 = 8 more gloves, the cost is $630-$470 = $160 more; that means the cost of each glove is $160/8 = $20.
The solution using formal algebra does exactly the same thing: --> -->
