You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Write a equation for each statement
:
alice is twice as old as bob.
a = 2b
in 5 years time,the total of their ages will be 70.
(a+5) + (b+5) = 70
a + b + 10 = 70
a + b = 70 - 10
a + b = 60
from the 1st equation replace a with 2b
2b + b = 60
3b = 60
b = 60/3
b = 20 yrs is Bob's age
then, obviously
2(20) = 40 yrs is Alice's age now

Check this using the 2nd statement
" in 5 years time, the total of their ages will be 70."
45 + 25 = 70

alice is twice as old as bob.in 5 years time,the total of their ages will be 70. how old is aloce now
Let Alice's age be A
Then Bob's is: matrix%281%2C5%2C+1%2F2%2C+%22%2A%22%2C+A%2C+or%2C+A%2F2%29
In 5 years, their ages will sum to 70, so their ages now sum to 60 (70 - 2 * 5, or 70 - 10)
We then get: matrix%281%2C3%2C+A+%2B+A%2F2%2C+%22=%22%2C+60%29
2A + A = 120 ------- Multiplying by LCD, 2
3A = 120
A, or Alice is: highlight_green%28matrix%281%2C4%2C+120%2F3%2C+%22=%22%2C+40%2C+%22years-old%22%29%29
