Question 1093198: A car goes on a short trip shown on this diagram. ( Diagram= a square with 4 legs labeled: A, B, C, and D). Each leg of the trip is 5km. The time from A to B was 6 min., from B to C took 12 min., C to D took 3 min., and finally, from D back to A took 9 min.
a) what was the average speed along each leg of the trip?
b) what was the average speed for the round trip?
c) what was the average velocity for the whole trip?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! A car goes on a short trip shown on this diagram. ( Diagram= a square with 4 legs labeled: A, B, C, and D).
Each leg of the trip is 5km.
The time from A to B was 6 min., from B to C took 12 min., C to D took 3 min., and finally, from D back to A took 9 min.
:
speed = dist/time. 5km = 5000 m. change min to seconds (*60)
a) what was the average speed along each leg of the trip?
AB: 5000/6(60) = 18.9 m/s
BC: 5000/12(60) = 6.9 m/s
CD: 5000/3(60) = 27.8 m/s
DA: 5000/9(60) = 9.3 m/s
:
b) what was the average speed for the round trip?
4 * 5000 = 20000 m is the round trip
6+12+3+9 = 30 min is the total time
20000/30(60) = 11.1 m/s
c) what was the average velocity for the whole trip?
He returned to the same point he started, velocity is 0
