Question 1092909: Hello, I need help solving this trigonometric equation. I recently posted this, but I forgot to write it as an equation.
The question is: solve the following question for θ. Unless otherwise specified, give all solutions as exact radian measurements such that 0 ≤ θ < 2pi.
1. (3tan 3θ)^2 -27=0
I appreciate any time and effort that you put into solving this. Thank you in advance for your help!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I'll take a stab at it
+%28+3%2Atan%283theta+%29%29%5E2+-+27+=+0+
+%28+3%2Atan%28+3theta+%29%29%5E2+=+27+
+3%5E2%2Atan%28+3theta+%29%5E2+=+27+
+tan%28+3theta+%29%5E2+=+3+
Take the square root of both sides
+tan%28+3theta+%29+=+sqrt%283%29+
-----------------------------
Since +tan%28+pi%2F3+%29+=+sqrt%283%29+
and, also
+tan%28+pi+%2B+pi%2F3+%29+=+sqrt%283%29+
------------------------------
+3theta+=+pi%2F3+
+theta+=+pi%2F9+
and also:
+3theta+=+4%2Api%2F3+
+theta+=+4pi%2F9+
-----------------------
Get another opinion on this
( unless you know my solution is correct )

.
%283%2Atan%283theta%29%29%5E2 - 27 = 0  ====>

%283%2Atan%283theta%29%29%5E2 = 27 ====>

9%2Atan%5E2%283theta%29 = 27  ====>  divide by 9 each side  ====>

tan%5E2%283theta%29 = 3  ====>

tan%283theta%29 = +/- sqrt%283%29.

1)  tan%283theta%29 = sqrt%283%29  ====>  3theta = pi%2F3  or  4pi%2F3  or  7pi%2F3  or  10pi%2F3  or  13pi%2F3  or  16pi%2F3.

    It gives 6 different solutions for theta in the interval [0,2pi):

    pi%2F9,  4pi%2F9,  7pi%2F9,  10pi%2F9,  13pi%2F9,   16pi%2F9.

2)  tan%283theta%29 = sqrt%283%29  ====>  3theta = 2pi%2F3  or  5pi%2F3  or  8pi%2F3  or  11pi%2F3  or  14pi%2F3  or  17pi%2F3.

    It gives 6 different solutions for theta in the interval [0,2pi):

    2pi%2F9,  5pi%2F9,  8pi%2F9,  11pi%2F9,  14pi%2F9,   17pi%2F9.

The final answer is the union of values of theta from the lists 1) and 2).
