: A 5- pound mixture of peanuts and almonds sells for $15. If the peanuts sell for $1.50 a pound and the almonds sell for $4/pound, how many pounds of each type of nut are in the mix.
I know that x +y =15 and 1.50x + 4y = 15. But I am unsure of substitution or elimination. I can solve by elimination, but it's not my strongest point, and I am not sure how to even set it up.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
actually, x+y=5 (weight, not price) ... so y=5-x

using substitution ... 1.5x+4(5-x)=15 ... 1.5x+20-4x=15 ... -2.5x=-5
