Question 1088354: My question:
Two shops A and B sell the same brand of chocolate for the same price originally. On Valentine's Day, shop A increases the price by 30% and decreases by 30% afterwards. Shop B increases the percentage by 40% on that day and decreases by 40% afterwards. Dickson claims that the prices of chocolate are still the same in the two shops after Valentines Day. Do you agree? Explain why.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Shop A:
Let p = the original price
+p+%2B+.3p+=+1.3p+ = increased price
+1.3p+-+.3%2A%281.3p%29+=+1.3p+-+.39p+
+1.3p+-+.39p+=+.91p+ = price after lowering
--------------------------------------------
Shop B:
+p+%2B+.4p+=+1.4p+ = increased price
1.4p+-+.4%2A%281.4p%29+=+1.4p+-+.56p+
+1.4p+-+.56p+=+.84p+ = price after lowering
--------------------------------------------
Final prices are different
