If  a^2+1 = 9a   then divide both sides by "a", and you will get

    a+%2B+1%2Fa = 9.   (1)


    Now square both sides of (1). You will get

    a%5E2+%2B+2 + 1%2Fa%5E2 = 81,    and then

    a%5E2 + 1%2Fa%5E2 = 81 - 2 = 79.

Answer. 79.
