Question 1086763: (1). Jack and Jill work in the school office. They are recording and analysing the number and length of phone calls received. The number of telephone calls that are answered by the office has a mean of 12 calls per hour.
a) Find the probability that there are no calls in any given 15 minute interval. (answer was 0.0498)
I am stuck on C
c) If there are no calls in the first 15 minutes find the probability there are calls in the next 15 minutes. State any assumptions.
(I think I use poisson but I don't know how)
Thankyou! Your help is much appreciated!

Solution:
Part(a) was answered in your previous question.

For part (c), the probability is the same as part (a) because poisson processes (assumption) are memoryless, i.e. what happened historically does not affect the subsequent probabilities.
