the difference of 2 numbers is 3. If the difference of their highlight%28cross%28squared%29%29 squares is 15, what is the sum of the numbers ?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
x%5E2+-+y%5E2 = 15  ====>  (x+y)*(x-y) = 15.
Now replace x-y by 3, according to the condition. You will get
3*(x+y) = 15  ===>  x + y = 15%2F3 = 5.
Answer.  x + y = 5.
Solved.
There is NO any need to solve quadratic equation.
            The solution should not be more complex than the problem requires.         (Einstein)
